HTTP status puzzle

Five scenarios a day, each describing what a client sent and what the server knows. Pick the status code the server should return, and see the RFC section that says so.

Today's puzzle

How to play

Read the scenario and choose one of the six codes. After each answer you see the right code, its reason phrase and a line from the standard, with a link to the section of RFC 9110 that defines it, or of RFC 6585 and RFC 7725 for the codes they define.Five scenarios make one day's puzzle. The set changes at midnight, your time, and you can practise with more scenarios afterwards; practice does not count. Your scores stay in this browser.

About this puzzle

Each scenario is written from the definition of one status code in RFC 9110, the 2022 standard for HTTP semantics, or from RFC 6585 for 428, 429, 431 and 511 and RFC 7725 for 451. A scenario includes the detail that settles the answer, such as the header the client sent or whether the method may change on a redirect, so each one has a single right code. Codes the standards mark as unused or reserved do not appear.
